On the plus side, the app is totally free, meaning that it is a full version, there is no cost to download and, a big plus for me, no advertising and distributed with a Creative Commons license. The app is more clunky than word, and built on top of the Qt widget set, which is geek-talk for saying that the interface may not be terribly intuitive for windows users. LilyPond is Denemo's preferred software for creating beautiful sheet music that meets the highest publishing. Music can be inputted via the PC-Keyboard or played in using a MIDI controller. It allows you to quickly enter notation, which it then typesets using LilyPond's music engraver.
through a windows and wizards-based interface. In MuseScore, you see your score as it will print and you work that directly. Denemo is a free music program for GNU/Linux and Mac OSX. You add or remove instruments, articulations, ornaments, etc. With MuseScore, I get to input scores in a way similar to Finales Simple Note Entry, and I can output to a Lilypond. There are templates for different types of performance pieces, or you can create your own from scratch.
